Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for details.
A senior official stated the incident made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
