Ten sentenced of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for carrying out the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced charges of disseminating untruths regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to publishing defamatory statements about the couple's 24-year age gap.
The court delivered suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the convicted individuals. The complete verdict has still to be made public.
A persistent conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has existed since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the United States of America against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the French president's wife's identity.
Their legal filing contends that Owens disregarded substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions opting to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has often echoed these allegations on her podcast and social networks, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her insistence that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her now-husband when she taught at his high school.
The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
